FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 7, 2017
CALLING ALL TEXAS ANGLERS!! The heat is creeping up and that means it’s almost time for the 28th Annual CCA State of Texas Anglers Rodeo (STAR) sponsored by Texas Ford Dealers, Tilson Homes, and Capital Farm Credit! Instead of the early bird gets the worm, the early bird gets the boat if you register by April 28th. The “Early Bird” Promotion “grand prize” will once again be a brand new Dargel 210 Skout with a Mercury 150 Pro XS OptiMax motor and McClain trailer, a prize package valued at around $40,000! Everyone ages 21 and over that signs up now through April 28th will automatically be entered into the boat drawing, along with 20 other great prizes being offered. Everyone 20 years old and under that signs up now through April 28th will be entered to win twenty other great prizes. This year’s event begins at sunrise on Saturday, May 27th and ends on Labor Day, September 4th at 5p.m. Is this your year to be a STAR?!
Don’t procrastinate!! STAR has a plethora of stories of people who went home with a full bag of fillets instead of a driveway full of prizes.
Driveway sized prizes can be claimed by STAR anglers who bring in the first 10 tagged redfish. The first five winners will drive home in a loaded 2017 Ford F-150 “Texas Edition” XLT SuperCab, pulling a brand new 23’ Haynie BigFoot boat rigged with a Mercury 150L Pro XS OptiMax motor and Coastline trailer. The next five tagged redfish winners will each claim a 23’ Haynie BigFoot boat with a Mercury 150L Pro XS OptiMax motor and Coastline trailers.
Just because you don’t chase reds doesn’t mean your own driveway can’t be filled with a new boat from STAR. STAR contestants who catch the largest trout in the Upper, Middle and Lower Coast Divisions will each take home a Mowdy 22’ V boat with a Mercury 150 OptiMax motor and Coastline trailer. In the Inshore Division, a Shoalwater 19’ Cat boat with a Mercury 115 ELPT 4S motor and McClain trailer will be given to each angler weighing in the biggest flounder, gafftop and sheepshead.
Don’t fish inshore? STAR blue water anglers who land the heaviest kingfish, dorado and ling (cobia) in the Offshore Division will each tow home a Polaris Ranger Crew 570EFI in Polaris Pursuit Camo sitting on a Big Tex Trailer.
The STAR Scholarship Divisions were implemented twenty-two years ago in the hopes of getting more kids off X-boxes and into tackle boxes by offering $325,000 in scholarships. To date, a total of 185 recipients have been awarded a grand total of $5,850,000 in free college. This year STAR participants, ages 6-10, who catch the largest flounder, sheepshead or gafftop will again each be awarded a $50,000 college scholarship. Winners 11-17 years of age, will be awarded a scholarship worth $25,000 in the flounder, sheepshead, gafftop, as well as, Upper, Middle and Lower Coast Trout Divisions. In addition, participants ages 6-17 years old in 2017, are eligible to win a bonus drawing for a $25,000 college scholarship even if the participant never wets a line! Keep in mind, anglers under 17 years are not limited to participate and are eligible to participate in the general divisions and win the great prizes offered by CCA Texas STAR tournament, as well.
